Book cover freelancer

I have been thinking what my dream job would be. I did three internships and I disliked them all. I didn't like the events internship because it involved a lot of other side jobs like product and interior design and it was very corporate work. The magazine internship felt a bit uncreative and unchallenging, the same layout and design every week with very few changes. This made me worry a bit as there seem to be a very few things that interest me. And I did see myself being more creative when working on my own. I am currently thinking of working in a publishing agency, but there are no publishing agencies in Oman. Penguin is a place I truly want to work in, even a work placement would do it. And even if I got job there, I don't want to settle in the UK for the rest of my life. I am currently thinking of working as a freelancer (setting a contract) with a publishing agency, but I am still not quite sure if thats possible or whether it exists. I came across a Qatari publishing house called Bloomsburry but theres no mention of graphic design vacancies in their careers page which made me think that they might be dealing with freelancers. Dar Al Saqi is another publishing house which I might consider contacting.

Update 02/05/15
I got an offer from Dar Al Adab, but they stopped responding back. Others either ignored me or said they have already in house designers and they'll contact me when they need help, but no response so far. I was quite upset in the beginning, because thats really what I wanted to do, but thinking about it now, it gave me the chance of thinking more in applying for masters. I always believed that when things do not go according to my desire, it's because there is something better planned for me. I really hope I get an offer at LCC, not only because it has always been my dream, but now I feel I need it to develop myself.

Personal work

Ever since I started uni, I wanted to do some side personal work, but I couldn't think of any. I tried few times, but I gave up easily. While I was in London during christmas break, we came across a foundation/first year italian student who was selling his work. His work was done in A5s and A6s using sharpies which I absolutely loved. I thought why cant I do the same? I have set a target to paint everyday till easter break, by then I would have improved a lot and might give it a shot and sell my work. Its not something I am planning to live on, but just for my self-esteem and would be a good break from my other coursework. I was thinking of having children's illustration as a reference and I will start from tonight. I also got back to reading this year which helped me to broaden my vision a lot and had a good impact on my projects than just focusing on uni work.

Update 02/05/15
As much as I love illustrating, I find it extremely hard to do it without a brief and a deadline. I know I have the ability to be a good illustrator and succeed in this area, but as much as I tried, I couldn't do it. This is why I intend to do a master degree in illustration. At first, I was thinking its either I do it in London or I don't do it at all. But now, thinking about it, I can work independently and I am self motivated, but I just need a dedicated time for it and a little push. Also, while doing the master degree, I will be looking for an illustration freelance opportunities, so once I graduate, I will have secured few jobs. The jobs I have been offered so far aren't in my area of interest, I know I will do well in them but I they are not my dream jobs. I fought hard to study what I want, so I want to love my job. I am a fighter, I can do it!
